Thirty Young People Board the bus for the first leg of trip to France


On July 1 a group of 30 Fredericksburg area students and eight adults departed Fredericksburg for Frejus, France to play basketball in the second sports exchange between the two sister cities.

Many of the students are shown here boarding the bus for the airport. They flew from D. C. to New York and then directly to Nice, France before boarding a bus for a 60 mile trip to Frejus.

The Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation staff, the coaches and the players have been preparing for the rematch of the first exchange held in Fredericksburg in 2001.

The students, chaperones and coaches are guest of families in Frejus until July 15.

In addition to daily basketball matches the the group will visit Monaco, Verdon [ France's Grand Canyon], the glass factory at Biot, Marineland at Antibes, Saint Tropez [by boat from Frejus]. They will also have time to shop in Nice, visit a parfume factory, go swimming, para-sailing and kayaking on the Mediterranean, and watch fantastic fireworks as France celebrates their liberation day on July 14.

We are proud of these young people and urge you to welcome them home. THEY ARE SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER ON CANAL STREET AROUND 11:00PM, JULY 15TH.
