SCI MAKES NATIONAL AWARD
The July 2001 " F2 GAMES - A BASKETBALL EXCHANGE WITH FREJUS, FRANCE" was selected by Sister Cities International to receive an award for "Innovative-Sports Events" in the SCI 40th Annual Awards Program. Competition was among the 1200 Sister Cities in the United States. Attending the conference in Toledo Ohio in July 2002 to receive the award were Mrs. Paula Suggs, President of the Fredericksburg Sister City Association, Mrs. Jane Shelhorse,Assistant Director - Fredericksburg Parks,Recreation & Public Ficilities Department and Mr. Michel Herbiet, Directorof Fredericksburg Events for the Frejus Jumelage. Madame Herbiet and Officer Jim Shelhorse - Public Affairs Officer for the Fredericksburg Police Department accompanied the group.
Mrs. Suggs and Mrs. Shelhorse were also invited by SCI to present a workshop on the successful planning and execution of their sports program. It is believed to be the first basketball sports exchange in the 40 year history of SCI. The award will be presented at City Council in the near future.
